![]() | Cross the granite step and find yourself transported to another time.
Experience first hand an early New Hampshire country home and it's
carefully preserved furnishings. Walk through the kitchen with the old
cook stove, the parlor equipped with musical instruments for
entertaining, and the unique brick room. Visit the “upper chambers” and
see our collection of textiles and our “curiosity” cabinet. See the
utensils, hand tools, baskets, and spinning wheels used by early Candia
townspeople to carry out their daily lives. The Fitts Museum
is located in the historic “senter” of the community. Candia’s first
town meeting was held in a nearby home in 1764. The Old Meeting House
was located where the Civil War Soldier’s Monument now stands. Parades,
fairs and militia drills were held on the “common”. Many of the men and
women who have shaped the town of Candia have gathered with their
families here on the hill. NEW HOURS: Open to the public the third Saturday of the month (May to October) from 1:00–4:00 pm. Individual and group tours are available by appointment which can be made through the Contact Us link. There is no charge for
admission; donations are always welcomed. |
